Chiropractic is a profession, which specialises in the diagnosis, treatment, management and prevention of conditions, which are due to mechanical dysfunction of the joints and their effects on the nervous system.

Using our hands, we adjust (manipulate) the spine and related joints where signs of mechanical restriction in movement are present, thereby improving mobility (biomechanics) and relieving pain. This is more commonly known as treating the cause of the problem rather than treating the symptom.

Inadequate or incorrect function of the spine and related joints can cause irritation of the nerves that control muscular function and movement. This spinal nerve stress can, and more often than not, lead to the symptoms of stiffness (restriction of a joint i.e. "stiff neck" or "stiff back"), pain and other systemic illnesses - see Vertebral Subluxation Complex.

By administering specific adjustments, we are able to stimulate the joint movement receptors (the body's position sensors which tell the brain where the body is in space) by increasing specific joint motion, relieving the muscular compensatory spasm, and specifically rehabilitating the misaligned vertebrae or joint into the correct position. The body is then able to function in a normal manner.
