We live in a sedentary world in which we all spend time at a desk sitting and leaning forward for too long. The muscle tension, which results from poor posture, will apply extra pressure on the neck, back and shoulder joints (vertebrae) which will then irritate the sensitive spinal nerves. These postural effects can cause headaches, muscle tightness and tension, stress fatigue and other pains referred to the shoulder and down the arm(s). Such repetitive strain produces back and neck pain.
Additionally, 85% of all neck injuries are a result of a motor vehicle accident. The term "whiplash" is used to describe the aggressive forward (acceleration) then backward (deceleration) movement of the head when involved in a collision or a fall. 50% of all victims have significant pain up tp 2 years after the injury if treatment is not sought and some are in constant chronic pain.
If you have been involved in a whiplash injury it is advisable to contact us as soon as possible. X-rays will be taken to ensure that there is no fracture or dislocation present. A comprehensive examination will then be performed to see if there has been any muscular damage or equally as common any nerve irritation.
